Hyundai-Kia Motors is to hold a ceremony for the 'A World We Move Together Campaign' on Thursday, November 16 at 11:30AM in the Home of Peace in Eunpyeong Gu, Seoul as part of the company's support for increasing and improving mobility-aid facilities for the disabled. Together with the Common Social Welfare Fundraising Committee and the Federation of Korean Organizations for the Disabled, Hyundai-Kia is to invest five-hundred million won in seventy-eight organizations across the country. The company's support is expected to improve the conditions of mobility for the disabled greatly.
The '2006 Mobility Facility Improvement for the Disabled' campaign promises support and aid for improving and expanding various mobility facilities for the disabled in the organizations for the disabled, independent-living support centers, employment rehabilitation centers, welfare centers for the disabled, and others by providing automatic doors, better ramps, handrails, and so forth. Many places for the disabled are struggling to provide better mobility conditions for the disabled due to the shortage of financial aid.
The day's event is to be attended by Senior Director Jang Jae-ho of Hyundai-Kia; Secretary General Shin Pil-gyu of the Common Social Welfare Fundraising Committee; Co-chair Choi Seong-jung of the Federation, forty members of the Home of Peace and fifty employees of the Fund Association to celebrate the occasion.
Director Jang of Hyundai-Kia says, "bad conditions of mobility for the disabled form a high barrier between the disabled and their road to more freedom. We all have to try a little harder together to make the world not special, but more livable for more members of society." He further added, "Hyundai-Kia Motors will support for the cause in various areas."
Since 2004, Hyundai-Kia Motors has been providing free electronic wheelchairs, prosthetic legs, specially designed shoes, and other devices such as the Braille-based telecommunication devices for the low-income disabled. The company has also recently developed its Easy Move Vehicles, specifically designed to help the disabled and the mobility-bound travel more safely and easily.
The Common Social Welfare Fundraising Committee is to hold a ceremony for the campaign of delivering prosthetic legs and specially designed shoes to the disabled at Dongmun Hall of Seogang University on Tuesday, October 24 at 11AM. As part of the support projects for the disabled sponsored by Hyundai-Kia Motors Group, the ceremony is to deliver a total of three-hundred-thirty million won worth of support for the low-income disabled in need of prosthetic legs and specially designed shoes. Since these devices have to be customized for each user, they tend to cost much and be burdens on the disabled members of low-income households. The support from Hyundai-Kia is, thus, expected to help the disabled greatly both in terms of their physical mobility and their social confidence.
The devices to be delivered through the day's occasion, which include prosthetic limbs, special shoes for patients of cerebral palsy, and shoes for prosthetic legs, are necessary tools for the self-sufficiency and productive activities of the disabled. These devices are to be provided for the disabled members of low-income households having difficulty affording these devices.
In addition to twenty-five of the designated beneficiaries of the campaign and thirty employees from the Common Social Welfare Fundraising Committee, the ceremony will be attended by Senior Director Jang Jae-ho of Hyundai-Kia Motors, HQ Director Kim Hyeon-gyeong of the Common Social Welfare Fundraising Committee, and Chair Kim Seong-jae of the Research Center for Human Rights of the Disabled.
Director Jang of Hyundai-Kia says, "despite the unfortunate increase in disability due to motor accidents and other industrial disasters in today's world, it is our wish that a support program like this would help the disabled gain self-sufficiency and increase their social participation." He further states, "Hyundai-Kia Motors will continue its support for the improvement in the practical welfare of the disabled." The company plans to support for other groups of people in need through a variety of social commitment programs and campaigns.
In addition to providing necessary mobility-aid devices for the low-income disabled and sponsoring improvements in the mobility facilities for the disabled, Hyundai-Kia Motors has recently developed its Easy Move Vehicles for the disabled and mobility-bound, leading a campaign for improving conditions of mobility for the disabled.
